How Different Foods Look Around The World As Compared to the US

Food has been at the very root of culture for as long as memory goes back. Food is how we connect and bond with one another, it’s an expression and a representation of us as a community. The United States has had a unique opportunity, given its melting pot culture, to adapt the foods of various peoples from around the world. Likewise, America has also influenced others with some of its more unique creations. If you’d like to see how some of the older and newer adaptions from ’round the globe compare, read on!

1. Biscuits With Tea Or Topped With Gravy?

Biscuit is a bit of a misnomer here, given it refers to two completely different kinds of food on different sides of the Atlantic. Talk about confusing! In the American South, biscuits are a form of a very light bread roll, very light and fluffy, and often served topped with gravy. They melt in your mouth.

Meanwhile, if you were to go to Jolly Old England, you would realize that they serve biscuits with tea. Biscuits in the UK and even much of Europe generally refer to a plain kind of cookie, on the blander side but wonderfully versatile. You can probably put a topping on it to make it more interesting if you really want to, but gravy is definitely not one I’d recommend.
